NJ LEO Jiu-Jitsu Open Mat at The Academy

Enhance Your Skills, Safety, and Community Impact

At The Academy of Jiu-Jitsu, we are proud to offer special pricing for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs). Established in 2005 by former police officer, The Academy has a rich history of excellence in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, influenced by renowned figures such as Renzo Gracie, Matt Serra, and John Danaher. Our LEO Program is spearheaded by experienced officers Erik Hoffman and Kory Acchione and is designed to remove all barriers to training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Why Jiu-Jitsu is Essential for LEOs

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is more than just a martial art; it is a vital tool for law enforcement officers. Here’s why:

  1. Effective Defensive Tactics: All modern defensive tactics are deeply rooted in jiu-jitsu. The techniques taught at The Academy focus on leverage, control, and submission, allowing officers to subdue suspects without relying on strikes or excessive force. This approach minimizes the risk of injury to both the officer and the suspect

  2. Real-World Application: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides practical skills that are directly applicable in the field. Officers learn how to handle physical confrontations, control resisting individuals, and protect themselves in various scenarios. This training is crucial for ensuring that officers can perform their duties safely and effectively.

  3. Improved Physical and Mental Fitness: Training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu enhances physical fitness, reaction time, and mental resilience. These benefits contribute to increased confidence and the ability to remain calm under pressure, which are essential traits for law enforcement officers.

  4. Community Safety: By training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, officers can handle confrontations more efficiently and humanely. This leads to safer interactions with the community, reducing the likelihood of injuries during arrests.
